Maintaining Equilibrium

“Equilibrium: A state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced”

Growing up on the farm in Iowa we always had big piles of rock in the pastures discarded after removing them from the fields. In my piece “Maintaing Equilibrium” this pile of rock is stacked and balanced carefully. How many years had it remained that way before this crow decided to land and possibly upset the whole state of things? This piece has a visual ying yang effect which also (I think) creates a feeling of balance. Did you notice the rocks starting to separate and float in the reflection? Not sure why I did that at first, but it seems to mirrors the flight of the bird.

“Maintaining Equilibrium” is a collagraph print made from matboard, pieces of paper, modeling paste, and sand.
