“Cats Cradle” Almost Ready to Print

I finally have my linocut finished and have been trying to decide on technique I will use along with it as the color plate. I’ve decided to do monoprints.

I’ve really enjoyed incorporating collage elements into my work, but I’ve always been a little unhappy with the slightly muted colors that I got when the image was printed onto the printmaking paper by my Epson printer.

I will have to create each monoprint seperately so of course each print will be different. I will be free to use different colors and textures for each impression which could really turn out to be interesting.

It’s all been experimental and I guess that’s the only way to find out what works best for me.

linocut and plates

I set up my plates this weekend to get ready to start my monoprints this week. The first plate (brown) is just a piece of plexiglass with a print of my linocut layed underneath to use as a color guide. The second plate (black) is my linocut mounted to a piece of matboard.

It’s really hard to see, but I then added paper guides to the righthand side and top of each plate keeping the measurements the same to (hopefully) both impressions will line up correctly.

Stay tuned for my monoprint demonstration this week!
